Epic Games have just announced that the controversial Infinity Blade mythic item has been vaulted, following widespread criticism over its extremely overpowered nature.
‘We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game,’ Epic said in the official announcement. ‘The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items. Thanks for calling us out on this!’
The Infinity Blade, added with Patch V7.01 on Tuesday, is arguably the most controversial addition to the game thus far. The first ‘Mythic’ weapon was added on the same day as the North American Winter Royale semifinals, causing unanimous outrage amongst participants and viewers:
Epic Games originally planned to nerf the sword in next week’s V7.10 patch but the pressure from the community proved to be too much, as the item has now been completely removed from the game.
We’ll have to see how the Fortnite developers re-evaluate their approach regarding future Mythic-level items.
